The Health and Care Economics Cymru Methodological Hub aims to provide an environment to develop and apply cutting-edge methods of health economic evaluation and associated analyses. The purpose of the Hub is to improve the validity and relevance of the healthcare evidence-base in order to make better decisions on the use of resources.
The all-Wales Hub will challenge current approaches, develop new methodologies, and promote good practice by:
- Co-producing joint projects and papers with our stakeholders
- Ensuring that our findings are used to inform the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of future economic studies
- Working in partnership with others to maximise potential gains – such as the Medical Research Council (MRC), National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and Health and Care Research Wales funded Trials Methodological Research Partnership
Example areas of methodological development include:
- Development of the UK tariff scores for the EQ-5D-5L
- Development of a Patient and Citizen based value framework
- Health and social care values and applied methods (e.g. Social Return on Investment, SROI)
- Prioritisation, resource allocation and programme budgeting and marginal analysis (PBMA)
- Accounting for missing data in trial-based economic evaluations
